Jane’s plan is simple: Win Elections. We
can win elections, we can make Democrats in Georgia strong again by focusing on
four areas. Giving the County Parties a Bigger
Role: Jane knows that the experts in Atlanta don’t have all the answers. If
we want to win, we must let our local organizations play a larger part in determining
the path our state party follows. As a longtime member of the Clarke County Democratic
Party, Jane knows how frustrating it can be to feel as though the advice and guidance
of local parties are falling on deaf ears in Atlanta. As
Chair of the DPG, Jane will restore the state party to its proper role – serving
as a resource to give local parties the tools and resources they need to win on
the local level. She will open up stronger lines of communication between the
county parties and Atlanta by regularly attending local party meetings throughout
the state, holding frequent conference calls with local party leaders, and by
increasing the size of the state party’s email list to keep Democrats across Georgia
in the loop. Candidate Recruitment and the 159
County Strategy: In order for Democrats to win in Georgia, we must be competitive
in every State House, State Senate, and local race. Jane believes that every voter
in Georgia deserves a choice, and we are not doing our best work as a political
organization unless we give every voter that choice. As DPG Chair, Jane will aggressively
pursue a strategy that challenges Republicans in every seat. We’ll make them work
for every vote they get. The best way to be competitive
in 159 counties is to focus on candidate recruitment. Here again, Jane will rely
on the support of county party organizations to help the state party identify
good candidates and recruit them to run. She will also expand our candidate training
opportunities and include additional workshops to train local party members in
grassroots organization, fundraising, voter file use, and campaign management.
Fundraising: Hard work is no longer enough. If we want to win races, we
have to have the resources to reach the voters. We must be competitive with the
Republicans in grassroots organization and media. Jane knows how to raise money,
and she’s proven that both as a candidate and in her career before politics. As
Chair of the DPG, Jane will assume the role of fundraiser-in-chief, working with
big donors and national groups to put more money into Georgia. As the budget allows,
she will expand the DPG’s fundraising operation, adding staff and increasing our
universe of donors. Finally, Jane and DPG staff will work closely with county
parties to help them raise more money as well. Voter
Education and Grassroots Organizing: The key to winning elections starts in
the off years. While the DPG has traditionally flown under the radar in non-election
years, Jane will raise the profile of the DPG in off years and keep our vision
and message in the public eye – even when elections are a year away. As
DPG Chair, Jane will direct DPG resources into helping Democrats pass legislation
during General Assembly sessions, by rallying public support behind our issues.
She will also create a year-round grassroots program spearheaded by local parties
to build Democratic support before the election cycle begins. |
